Exercise & sleep
Despite the fact that puppies have a lot of energy, lots of physical exercise and walks actually has the opposite effect and leads to over arousal and more biting and unwanted behaviour.
Puppies need 18-20h of sleep per day!!!
And on top of that they need downtime, they should not be actively playing and running around for the 4 waking hours!!!
Walks should be kept to 10-15 mins once or twice a day and should be at a meandering pace and ideally on a long line so they can sniff and explore! The best type of exercise is off leash or on a long line on trails, just you am your pup! Walks on leash aren’t very exciting for puppies, so best to keep them short to avoid frustration and bad habits being established.
If you force them to walk past their point of comfort you will see reactive behaviour, leash biting and meltdowns/shutdowns.
Avoid lots of play dates, they should be short with frequent calming breaks.
Biking, jogging, cross country skiing and long walks on pavement is not suitable exercise for puppies till 18 months!!! They can all cause injuries to their soft undeveloped bodies, and on top of that, they are wayyyy over the limit of exercise that your puppy actually needs and will cause over stimulation, over arousal and this leads to behaviour issues such as biting, barking, jumping etc
Yes your puppy might look tired afterwards, but this kind of exercise will effect their behaviour at other times of the day and even the following day, especially if they aren’t getting enough sleep/downtime.

Barking!
Barking is normal, all dogs bark, and you should never inhibit a dogs need to bark in certain situations as its a vital form of communication, but there is a point where it can be excessive and it’s very difficult to stop if you approach it from the wrong angle. Telling a dog to be quiet, or NO usually will make the behaviour worse! Preventing the behaviour is key but there are steps to minimize unwanted barking.
