Who is The Dog Listener?
My name is Marika and I am the face behind The Dog Listener (originally Revy K9), I have been a professional dog trainer for over 9 years and opened Revy K9 in 2014 in Revelstoke BC.
I am originally Australian born and moved to Canada 13 years ago in search of a change. Unknowing of the journey I would undergo and the adventure that awaited me.
I moved to Canada (originally for a working holiday) and began professional dog training after rescuing a beautiful Rottweiler mix named Sierra.
Sierra was a very reactive dog and at the time, like many of you, I didnt know the first thing about training a reactive dog. I soon found my self very overwhelmed by her behaviour and attempted seeking help from various trainers, without much success.
I became determined to learn how to help her by undertaking a number of professional dog training courses, which led me to making a huge career change (trained as a high school teacher) and opening my new business with a passionate dream of helping others achieve harmony with their dogs.
Our journey unfortunately ended early but opened the door for a new journey with another beautiful rescue dog named Rambo and a mischievous Rottweiler puppy named Mackenzie. (Who is now an adult)
Each of my dogs has been challenging and unique, they taught me incredible lessons that I now pass on to my students, I thank them for teaching me those powerful lessons and thank them for forgiving me of my mistakes, that led me to learning how to be the best version of my self and the best loving leader I can be for them.
I am now proud to call my self a Certified Dancing Hearts Partnership Coach, after having been mentored and trained by the amazing Kathy Kawalec in her unique lifestyle approach to living in harmony with dogs.
My mission today is to build stronger relationships between dogs and their humans through better communication, connection, trust, compassion and an understanding of how our behaviour significantly impacts our dogs behaviour, rather then the common assumption of dogs simply misbehaving for no reason.
