1. Never leave the house for a walk if your dog is over excited, ask him to sit and wait till he calms down
2. Never let your dog barge out the door in front of you and pull you all the way down the street, if he attempts to barge out the door simply go back inside, ask him to sit and stay as you open the door and practice this over and over until he understands that barging does not = walk, sitting calmly and staying = walk! (This is the same for pulling, if he starts to pull stop and wait for a loose leash)
3. Never leave the house when you are stressed and go on a walk with your dog, your dog is like an umbilical cord and will feel this same stress and react more then usual or be tense on the leash. If you feel calm and balanced and start the walk on a positive your dog is more likely to feel calm and balanced too!
